Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has applauded the continuous effort of West Midland communications in promoting sporting activities and advancing sport in Oyo state through its annual Lagelu FM inter school relay competition
The Governor stated this in an address at the grand finale of the 3rd edition of the relay competition held at the University of Ibadan, sport complex
In his address at this year’s Lagelu inter school relay, special guest of honour and Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde pledged to always identify with the competition and commended the tremendous improvement with each edition
While commending the visioner and founder of LageluFm and splashfm Chief Adebayo Akande, the Maye Olubadan of Ibadan, Governor Makinde urged organizers not to be discouraged with logistic challenges that might arise with the success of the competition
The minister of youths and sport, Mr Sunday Dare who also graced the event affirmed that the competition would help to discover talents that would become sport ambassador for the country
Also, Mr Sunday Dare, stressed the need to identify young talents and train them to attain their full potentials, saying they would do the nation proud
Earlier, General Manager, Operations Splashfm and LageluFm Mr Tunde Olawuwo, appreciated the governor for his continuous support for the competition
The Lagelu inter school relay competition has eventually become a household name across secondary schools in Oyo state and among sport lovers
The competition which began in 2017 had help in discovering different talents with great potentials, beginning with over sixty schools as participants in the first edition, this third editions has a record of over two hundred schools with each edition a record of great testimonies
This third edition featured the presentation of medals and trophies to winners in the various categories of the competition namely 4 by 100, 4 by 200 and 4 by 400.
As Muslim Grammar School, Iseyin and Bright Ville College, Ibadan emerged winners of the boys and girls category of the 4 by 100 race respectively.
Bright Ville College, Ibadan emerged winners of both the senior boys and girls categories of 4 by 200m, while Amoo Model College emerged winners of both categories in the Junior 4 by 200m race.
Bright Ville College, Ibadan; Glorious College, Oyo and Ayodele Memorial Compresive High School, Oyo emerged first, second and third respectively in the 4 by 100m mixed category.
The event was attended by several sports stakeholders, government officials and other prominent Nigerians.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of baton by the minister of youth and sport to Governor Seyi Makinde for his contributions to sport with the baton also passed on to Chief Bayo Akande for his merritorious contributions in unbundling talents in the state.
