Makinde Approves N557m For LG Teachers’ Salary Arrears

The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, said he has approved that a sum of N557million be paid to some local government teachers whose arrears of salaries of about 3 to 7 months are yet to be paid.
Makinde disclosed this during an interactive session with the state Civil/Public Servants in commemoration of His 100 days in Office, held at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, secretariat, Ibadan.
He also revealed that Oyo state has received a six million dollars grant from the World Bank via the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Programme Under the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
The whooping sum equivalent to be about N1.8Billion is said to be spent to improve the state education and part of it will be used for government-owned schools subvention.
While responding to about 33 questions asked by the civil/public servants which majorly centered on demands, governor Makinde stated that to save more money to cater for the needs outlined, a verification exercise will soon commence for the civil/public servants in the state. Adding that the exercise is not to witch-hunt any of the government workers but to ensure that there is no fraud on the government payroll and to cast out ghost workers.
In her remark, The state head of service, Mrs. Amidat Ololade Agboola charged the civil/public servants to renew their dedication to the government. And shun any act they could end them up in jail.

Chairmen of Commissions and Boards,
Heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments,
General Managers/ Executive Secretaries, amongst others.
