Ladoja, who is the Otun Olubadan of Ibasanland, while faulting Makinde over his comments on the health status of the Olubadan-Designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, said Makinde was wrong to have said Olakulehin will be enthroned when he is fit, saying only the town (Ibadan people) can enthrone the Olubadan not the Governor.
Makinde at the state burial ceremony for late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, said Olakulehin will be enthroned when he is fit for the throne.
But Ladoja, a former Governor, while speaking with newsmen at his Bodija, Ibadan residence said Makinde can only present staff of office and instrument of office to the Olubadan-Designate not enthrone him.
He maintained that the role of government was just to give staff of office and instrument of office to the Olubadan-Designate.
“The Governor might have access to medical records of Olakulehin’s health or send his doctors to access his health or use artificial intelligence to do that.
“I don’t have any problem if the governor refuses to give him staff of office or instrument of office but he is not the one to enthrone him.
“Olakulehin is an aged man, we didn’t expect him to still be acting like a youth.”
I suspected that we will get to this impasse on the issue of enthronement of Olubadan because it is apparent that some people have vested interest to shuttle the peaceful and orderly succession system of Ibadanland in their myopic and selfish efforts to block an individual they all see as their enemy from ascending the throne.
This is going to lead into wasteful court case if per adventure Olubadan designate is not able to rule before answering the inevitable call to demise (May God not allow this to happen) The thinking of these enemies of Ibadanland is that Oba Olakuleyin is old and may not last on the throne as if they are second in command of God Almighty to know who will die or live.
It is therefore in the interest of all parties for the governor to allow the presentation of instrument of office to Olubadan designate immediately without further wasting of time andbleave God to decide who will die or live. A word is enough for the wise.
