Efforts by some suspected Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, thugs to thwart collation of results for Ibadan North East local government have been thwarted by a combined security team at Lagelu Grammar School, premises of Ibadan North East local government collation centre for the Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency.
This newspaper understands that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adedapo Lam-Adesina is leading in the council area, where ‘Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, hails from.
Lam-Adesina, who represented the Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency between 2015 and 2019, is challenging incumbent Abass Adigun of the PDP.
Over hundreds of thugs, armed with dangerous weapons and charms, were picked following a tip-off by members of the public who have been at the Centre.
Earlier at Mapo, headquarters of Ibadan South East local government, the thugs, in their hundreds, had besieged the centre before being chased away security agents.
As at press time, collation of results was still ongoing and no winner has been declared in the keenly contested election.
Both major candidates of the APC and PDP are from Ibadan South East local government.
