Detained candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, for Ibadan Northwest/Southwest federal constituency, Hon. Rotimi Ajanaku, has been has released.
Ajanaku, OYO INSIGHT had reported, was arrested yesterday by men of Nigeria Police Force from Apata, Ibadan.
Speaking after his release, Ajanaku thanked his supporters for standing by him. “From the show of love and solidarity by my people today, I am impressed as this will stimulate me to keep serving the humanity. No amount of political intimidation can stop me,” he added.
A statement by his media office stated that “Ajanaku was at the police station on the invitation of the police. However, police wanted to detain him for political reason, even with less than 48 hours to the general election in which he is contesting.
“Sensing the ploy by the police, Ajanaku’s followers besieged the station and occupied the Apata expressway in protest of his arrest. There was serious gridlock on the road.
“Ajanaku had since yesterday returned to his hotel at Dino with his teeming supporters and about 100 motorcyclists escorted him,” it added.
