Officials of the Oyo State Government were earlier today denied entry into the premises of the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Command in Ibadan to deliver the 1,800 bags of ‘unfit for consumption’ COVID-19 palliative rice rejected by the state government.

The officials of the state government led by the commissioner for agriculture, Hon Ojemuyiwa Ojekunle, today, led three trucks to the Oyo/Osun headquarters of the NCS with truckloads of the rejected bags of rice.

While speaking with journalists, the Commissioner for Agriculture, said the state government had written the agency to intimate it of plans to return the unhealthy rice declared as unfit for consumption but was surprised that men of the NCS bluntly barred them from returning the rejected federal government palliative

He, however, stressed further that the decision to return the rice had no iota of mischief but was in an attempt to perhaps get better quality fit for consumption of the people

He added that the state government’s officials would seek further directives from the state government to determine the next line of action.

In a related development, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun command, who declined official comment, insisted that the command had not receive any directive to receive the return rice.
