Sheikh Moshood Ajokidero, Chief Imam of Oyo, has succumbed to death.
OYOINSIGHT.COM understands he had been sick for a while before he died last night.
He was one of the longest-reigning Grand Imams in the state.
A post on his official Facebook page reads: “As salaam alaykum. InnaLillah wainna Ilaihu raajiun. We Announce The Demise of the Grand Chief Imam Of Oyo. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaos. Amen 🤲🏻”
He is expected to be buried today according to Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo central senatorial district and Oyo federal constituency, Dr. Yunus Akintunde and Prince Akeem Adeyemi respectively, have commiserated with the people of Oyo, especially the Muslim Ummah over the death of highly educated cleric.
In their separate statements, they said Oyo State and Muslim community in Nigeria have lost a great, dedicated and knowledgeable cleric in Sheikh Ajokidero, praying Allah to grant him Aljanah firdaus.
”I knew Sheikh Ajokidero very well. You know he was around for long. We did many things together. It is sad that we lost him at this point in time but as a Muslim, we cannot question our Creator. In fact, all of us will die at the appointed time. Though we would have loved him to be around for more years, Sheikh Ajokidero impacted lives. We will miss him. I commiserate his family, Muslim Ummah and people of our dear town over his demise,” said Akintunde consoled.
Skimeh, as Adeyemi is popularly known, said “our people have lost another shinning light. I can say I have been having things to do with him personally for close to two decades. He was very versed. There is nothing we can do about death than to thank the almighty Allah for a life well spent. For Sheikh Ajokidero, it wasn’t the number of years lived, it was the impact he made. I pray Allah gives us all the fortitude to bear the loss and grant him Aljannah”
