Saheed Arowosaye, chairman of Oyo East local government has deplored the insecurity around Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway.
Arosad, as the council boss is fondly called, spoke in a statement made available to OYOINSIGHT.COM.
According to him, the senator representing Oyo central district who is also the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2023 election, Teslim Folarin and Akeem Adeyemi who is representing Oyo federal constituency to call the attention of the federal government to the plight of people.
THE DEPLORABLE STATE OF OYO-OGBOMOSHO FEDERAL EXPRESSWAY AND A CALL FOR URGENT ACTION
This morning, I was at the Oyo-Ogbomosho federal expressway after I got a call from the DPO that some criminal elements are taking advantage of the deplorable state of the road to rob commuters plying the road who were stuck in the traffic.
For quite some time, we have been drawing the attention of the federal authorities to the state of that road. We visited the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to demand action on the road but we were told that it’s beyond their powers to fix it until we get the members representing us in both chambers of the National Assembly to use their influence to get it included in the budget and contract for its rehabilitation will be awarded. In the past we have within our limited resources did temporary works on the road which was not enough to sustain daily heavy vehicular movement on the road.
On this note, I want to use this medium to call on the Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Sen. Oloye Teslim Kolawole Folarin and the member representing Oyo Federal Constituency, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi to consider the plight of ordinary people using that road and come alive to their responsibilities and draw the attention of the federal government to the road. That road, amongst other purposes, is very critical to the economy of the Local Government, Constituency, and Senatorial District. Therefore, the continued neglect of that road is injurious to the people and economy of the local government, Oyo Federal Constituency, and Oyo Central senatorial district. In addition, for us in Oyo East Local Government Area, the recent criminal activities on that road is stretching our security resources.
