Only last Friday, pro-Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, had stormed the zone after the expiration of ultimatum given to killer Fulani herdsmen to vacate the place.

An Address read by the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin at the Security Summit convened to x-ray the spate of insecurity in Ibarapaland.*

Protocol.

This is surely not the best of time in terms of security in Nigeria and indeed in several States of the Federation.

The situation is also particularly worrisome in Ibarapaland as there’s virtually no town or community in our zone that does not have tales of woes to tell on the rising cases of insecurity in the last one year or more.

As a son of the soil and a key stakeholder in the present administration, I am deeply saddened and touched by the increasing complexity of crime and unprecedented cases of kidnappings, assassination, armed robbery and banditry, destruction of farmlands, rape among others in our land. These incidents have claimed many lives of notable and promising indigenes too numerous to mention here and my prayer is for the Lord to rest their souls eternally. May their spirits continue to haunt and taunt their killers until the hands of the law catch up with them.

It is therefore imperative that we convene a security meeting to x-ray the situation, proffer all inclusive and workable solutions and approach that will complement the efforts of Government and return peace and security to Ibarapaland, as well as suggest ways of preventing such security crises in our land in future.

Since security is one of the cardinal essence of Government, I had before now been preoccupied with efforts to address the Insecurity in Ibarapaland and indeed Oyo State. We have raised and passed several motions on enhancing security in the House, and above all we have passed the anti-open hearing and grazing bill into law. Several meetings have been held with top Security officials in the State while one of our efforts is the deployment of Amotekun Corps to Ibarapaland.

The latest effort is the approval given by the Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for the deployment of additional Amotekun Corps and other security personnel to Ibarapaland so that they can collectively wage total war against the criminals in our towns. They have been mandated to comb our forests, farms, villages, highways, and other places the Criminal elements may be hiding so that we can enjoy unhindered peace.

This trying times and the palpable fear in our minds require that we remain stronger and united ever than before to defeat the daredevil criminals anywhere they may be.

We need our Security officials, just as we need the traditional rulers, religious leaders, the elders and the youths, our women and other peace loving , law abiding nationalities in Ibarapaland to come up with strategies that will help us to achieve and entrench peace in our zone.

My worry and that of the present administration is not to allow the situation to degenerate into full blown crisis or war. We are surely not out to fight other nationalities living with us in the zone as they have the right as Nigerians to stay wherever they want, once they go about their lawful businesses and activities without infringing on the rights of others. But, we are ready to secure the lives of our people from miscreants, killers and bandits who are profiting from such inglorious and devilish ventures.

I therefore appeal to us all to see this summit as an opportunity to lend our voices to the ongoing effort to rid our land of Criminals, and also urge us to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by giving them useful information that would aid their job.

Finally, I want to specially appreciate everyone of us for finding time to be part of this discussion and I want to promise that our suggestions, dissatisfactions and above all resolutions will be presented to the Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde with an assurance that the much desired peace and security will return to our land very soon.

Thanks immensely and God bless you all.
