The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to complete the construction of the Ibadan Inland Dry Port in Erunmu, Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State, and other inland dry ports in Nigeria.

The House, at the plenary on Thursday, adopted a motion moved by Mr Muraina Ajibola on the facility, urging the Federal Government to complete the rail connection to the dry port and seaports to ensure the realisation of the projects at the earliest time possible.

The lawmakers, while approving prayers of the motion as amended by Mr Ade Adeogun, urged the Federal Government to put in place measures to attract investors from other countries to the Inland Dry Ports so that the remaining projects being handled by concessionaires could be completed as soon as possible.

They further urged the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to complete the dualisation of the Lagos-Ibadan-Egbeda and the Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Owo-Benin roads to prepare for the take-off of the Ibadan inland dry port, “since Oyo State has the potential of becoming the food basket of the nation with its landmass, soil profile, strategic position and concentration of agricultural research institutions.”

Furthermore, the House mandated the Committees on Land Transport, Ports and Harbour, Appropriations, and Works to ensure completion of the projects “by ensuring that they are well funded, having in mind their economic importance to the nation.”
