The Rotary Club of Ibadan-Jericho Metro has pledged its commitment to continually impact positively the society as it marked its 10th anniversary.
The President of the club, Mr Samuel Kolawole, made the pledge on Monday during the 10th anniversary of the club in Ibadan.
Kolawole said that the organisation, being a service club, would continue to focus on serving the community better than before.
He said that the club was complementing the effort of the government at various levels in making lives better for the citizens, adding that government alone cannot do it.
The president said that Rotary International has areas of focus which ranges from water, sanitation, education, maternal and child health, peace, and conflict prevention, among others.
“We are at Bataki village, a remote area in Ibadan on Saturday, to inaugurate a borehole; we have trained and empowered people on bead making.
‘This year, we have refurbished a block of classrooms and a Library at St. Louis Secondary School, refurbished a clinic at Agodi Correctional Centre, among others; that is the way we help because government alone cannot do it,” he said.
He said that the club, which started in 2012 with 26 members, had grown to 78 members of different backgrounds and professions.
Kolawole said that the club had overcome a lot of challenges in the last 10 years of its existence, adding that it was not easy to put people together to achieve success.
He said that the plan of the club was to continue to move forward and build on the successes recorded in previous years.
In his remark, the District Governor, Rotary Club of Wuse Central, Abuja, Mr Ayoola Oyedokun, said Nigeria as a country needed to replicate Rotary’s non-tribalistic, non religious and unity in selecting its leaders.
“All we do is that we are all united in the idea of service and that thing that unites us is for us to impact on our various communities and not to serve ourselves but to serve others.
“If we can do this as Nigerians, if we can take it upon ourselves that we want to serve everybody regardless of where they come from, if we are ready to take people into leadership positions regardless of where they come from, Nigeria will be better,” he said.
Oyedokun commended members of the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Jericho Metro for their good work and urged them not to relent. (End)
