Abayomi Fagbenro, one of those who felt aggrieved by the selection of Stanley Olajide, to run for another term as representative of Ibadan North West/South West federal constituency in the house of representatives has announced his withdrawal.
Bibire, as he is popularly called, said he had to step down following the intervention of Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State.
In a statement made available to OYOINSIGHT.COM, he said that “I will start by appreciating Governor Seyi Makinde for His sterling and committed leadership, and the leadership of PDP
“Also, I will like to sincerely appreciate my supporters in the state (Bibire family) for the undying loyalty and support they have demonstrated in the course of my ambition as a candidate for the Federal House of Representatives in Ibadan Northwest / Southwest constituency over the last few weeks.
“Having said that, It is important that some burning issues are clarified. So far, we have fought for the right course. Be that as it may, we should know that God reigns supreme and He has His ways of doing things. As a man of strong faith, I submit wholeheartedly to His will.
“Let me seize this opportunity to clear the air over some rumors flying around, especially on the contentious consensus issue for the Member of the House of Representative Ibadan Northwest/Southwest constituency, and how I went ahead to submit my nomination form in Abuja as part of preparations for the conduct of the Party Primary.
“Therefore, I want to report to you all that although those actions of mine were necessitated by my displeasure with the process leading to the selection of the consensus candidate, Gov. Seyi Makinde has waded into the lingering issue, and being the leader of the party in the State, he has the final verdict.
“You may recall that I mentioned during my declaration of joining PDP last year that coming to PDP is to support the good work of our amiable governor (Engr. Seyi Makinde). To this, I am still fully committed.
“I am not over-ambitious or desperate.
My ambition has always been geared towards contributing my best to the lives and well-being of people in Oyo State. So, it has never been and will never be about “me” or personal gains.
“At this juncture, I will like to add that I have met with our Governor, along with some of my people (Bibire-family) and the matter has been resolved amicably and I remain resolute as party loyalist by stepping down for Hon Stanley Olajide as PDP consensus candidate for Federal House representative Ibadan Northwest/Southwest constituency. I want to believe there is always another chance and the interest of the party matters.
“Therefore, the commitment, doggedness, and steadfastness of the entire Bibire family remain unwavering. We are loyal to our great party, PDP. We believe our personal interest to contribute should not override or jeopardize the party. We shall continue to strive harder in order to protect the interest of our great party and governor Seyi Makinde come 2023,” he assured.
