Mulikat Akande Adeola, a former majority leader, who represented Ogbomoso North/South/Oriire federal constituency between 2007 and 2015, in the house of representatives, has claimed Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, worked against her during the 2019 general elections.

The lawyer cum politician, OYOINSIGHT.COM, had lost her bid to represent Oyo North senatorial district under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to Fatai Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.

Since her defeat at the polls, the relationship between the influential former lawmaker and the governor has been fractured, a development centre to the lingering crisis with the PDP in the state.

In a recent interview with State Affairs, a weekly political interview with Edmund Obilo on Splash 105.5 FM, Makinde claimed that the party lost the Oyo North senatorial seat because Mulikat did not follow the campaign strategy presented to her

“Alhaja Mukikat, we pointed to her strategies to win Oyo North. Take Okeogun, for instance, the ten local governments there; she lost nine and won only 1. Two weeks later, in the same local government, I won nine and lost only in Irepo by 600 votes. So if someone like that says they are waiting for you in 2023, you can see that they are just chasing shadows,” the Governor had said.

However, while speaking with Obilo during the week, Mulikat noted that the governor’s action was one of the reasons why she lost.

“I contested in 2019 and thanks to the governor himself and other people who worked against me, I didn’t get that seat. You can ask him,” adding that “It was one of the reasons why I didn’t win. I was also not in Saki and Iseyin where the margin against me was high.

Speaking further, she noted that the crisis within the PDP in the state was as a result of the governor’s failure to compensate those who worked to ensure his emergence in 2019.

She noted that if you partake in forming a government, it is only fair such individual who worked should also be compensated.

“I am not talking about monetary compensation. It’s about the government. People are interested in certain positions. Everyone should get their dues. If you are a Agovernor, you’ve taken yours.”

“And as you know, if you are talking about PDP in Oyo State and Nigeria, I am not a newcomer. I have been in PDP since inception and I have worked for PDP for as long as anyone can remember,” she added.
