The first of these three monarchs, the Soun of Ogbomosho, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III,  joined his ancestors on the 12th of December.

The Soun, who passed on at the age of 95, reigned for 48 years.

About three weeks later, the 41st king of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, also joined his ancestors.

Oba Saliu died on the 2nd of January at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, after a brief illness at the age of 93.

As per the Ibadan tradition, he was succeeded by Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun, whose appointment was approved by the State Governor, Seyi Makinde following a recommendation to that effect made by the Olubadan-in-Council.

In the early hours Saturday, the the transition of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, was announced.

The late Alaafin, who sat on the throne for 52 years, is the longest-reigning Alaafin in the history of the ancient town.

As per traditions, the head of the Oyomesi, Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola, would take over the affairs of the palace, pending the appointment of a new Alaafin.
