A former Executive Assistant on political matters to the immediate past governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, has stated that he received the news of the death of Chief S.M. Akindele with “utmost sadness”.
Morounkola, who stated this in a statement to mourn the death of the elder statesman, described Akindele as a very active awoist.
According to him,”The news of the passage of Chief S. M. Akindele was received this evening with utmost sadness.
“Chief SM Akindele was a very active Awoist whose understanding of the history of the progressive movement in Nigeria was profoundly rich.
“At the time I served in the cabinet of late Alhaji Lam Adesina and lately as an Executive Assistant on political matters, he provided me with mentorship which was very useful for me.
“One major thing I will remember him for is the unforgettable role he played in ensuring the existence of a very warm relationship between former Governor Ajimobi and Iku Baba Yeye, the Alafin of Oyo Empire.”
He, however, added, that while Chief Akindele will be greatly missed, he will take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life with indelible marks on the sands of history.
