As the battle for the appointment of the Speaker of the House of Representatives continues,  a group under the aegis of Itesiwaju Oyo has disagreed with Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State over his alleged support for Femi Gbabajiamila from Lagos State.

The group led by Adetunji Yaqub and  Oluseyi Micheal in a statement said it was not proper for the governor to support a candidate from another state for the position of Speaker when Oyo State too can boast of ranking lawmakers who are qualified.

Governor Ajimobi had held a private meeting at his Oluyole residence with some elected lawmakers to rally support for Hon  Gbajabiamila as the speaker.

But the group described the governor’s directive as not only a bad decision but a  further demonstration of his dislike for the growth of internal democracy.

“It is quite absurd that Mr Governor who should be spearheading how Oyo State will produce the speaker of 9th Assembly House of Representatives which has been zoned to south west by the party.

“Oyo state has three high ranking lawmakers including Hon Olajide Olatubosun from Saki, Hon Akeem Adeyemi from Oyo and Hon Segun Dokun Odebunmi from Surulere who have also been enjoying maximum support from lawmakers and stakeholders from other states to be speaker”.

Mr Governor should be reminded that Oyo State he was not lucky to win for his party’s candidate at the last election needs key position and appointments from the Federal  Government to maintain the balance”.

“Lagos is already crowded with series of  key appointments ranging from Minister, head of agencies and Federal Board among others and Oyo state has not been privileged to enjoy one third of this since the creation of the state and we want to urge governor Ajimobi to have a rethink and consider the need to fight for the interest of Oyo state beyond May 29, 2019,” the group said.
