The ongoing strike by teachers in public primary and secondary schools on Monday paralysed this year’s Children’s Day celebration in Oyo State.
Our correspondent, who monitored activities marking the day in the state, observed that unlike in previous years, pupils who turned out for the event at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba in Ibadan, the state capital, were disappointed as no government official was around.
However, some parents and guardians who could afford to buy ticket fees for a Children’s Day party organised by Fresh FM, Ibadan, in conjunction with Adron Homes and Property, at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, took their kids to the event.
Presently, teachers are on strike because of the government’s inability to meet their demands for better service delivery including payment of their promotion arrears.
