A former Commissioner for Works in Oyo State, Dr. Yunus Akintunde has felicitated with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111 as he celebrates his 50th anniversary on the throne.
Akintunde, an Oyo-born politician, in a statement made available to newsmen, described the Alaafin as an unique monarch.
He noted that, for 50 years, Alaafin has defended the heritage of Yoruba land.
The statement read: “It’s 50 years since you have being preserving the revered traditions and cultural values of the Yorubas. Before then, for close to 32 years, Eledumare had prepared you for the task ahead. Your installation, at 32, as the Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom, was divine.
“Since then, you are committed to the upliftment of Yoruba cultural values and tradition. Far and wide, you are revered; when people talk about Yorubaland, it revolves around your Highness.
“During your time, you have brought development to Oyo and Yorubaland. Your interventions on regional and national issues and maintenance of love and peace has become your way of live. No doubt, you are a pride to all of us and we are all so proud to flaunt you as father and symbol the world all over.
“Any attempt to laud your giant strides since your ascension to the throne will certainly fall short of your unequalled achievements but the level of development, peace and growth Oyo town has experienced in the last 50 years is enough to paint an image of the way you have ruled.
“Unlike some monarchs, you have always put the interest of the people above yours, taking steps that will be of benefit to the town on all occasions.
“The way bring to together indigenes of the town under one umbrella, even when it looks impossible, to achieve a common provides an insight in your unrivalled ability to manage the affairs of your subjects.
“Kabiyesi, as you mark the 50th anniversary of your ascension to the throne of your forefathers, I pray that you continue to do this in many more years to come.”
