Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, a two-term former member of the house of representatives who represented Ibadan North-West/South-West federal constituency, has said Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State has only five môre months to spend in the Agodi government house saying Teslim Folarin, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is coming to take over the reigns of power in couple of months.
According to Fijabi, who is seeking a return in the 2023 elections, the broom party, APC, and not Accord is the main opposition party in Oyo State, adding that his party is more than ever ready to wrestle power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He spoke today while fielding questions from Aanuoluwapo Omorinde on BOTTOM LINE, a political programme on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan.
When asked how possible it will be for his party to dislodge Makinde, Fijabi, who was chairman house committee on communications said “it is obvious the governor is confused and has left even members of his party môre confused because they do not know who to follow. He has been busy following Wike up and down. He does not have a mind of his own. His people don’t even know where he belongs and who to follow. Tell me why it won’t be easy to defeat such a person. Teslim Folarin is the best man for the job. We know how to do this thing, just watch out”.
He alleged that Oyo State has been plunged into debt by the Seyi Makinde administration describing the 9th Oyo Assembly as a rubber stamp.
He asked the Anchor to name one tangible thing done or achieved by the Assembly.
Fijabi dismissed the Adebo Ogundoyin-led House of Assembly as the worst in the history of Oyo State.
In his words, “I was part of those who passed the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill into law in the House of Representatives. Thank God we have young people in the House now perhaps the youngest but what do you have to show for that. They are just rubber stamp ready to approve anything the Governor brings”.
When asked to substantiate his claim he said, “it is obvious now. They work hand-in-hand with the governor and they approve everything he brings to their table. They are the worst Oyo State has ever produced”.
Fijabi also faulted what he called “the shoddy job” he alleged was done on the Moniya-Iseyin road by the contractor employed by the current administration to prosecute the project.
“Go there and see what the road has become! A road that was constructed less than two years ago getting spoilt. I hope you have not forgotten that Ajimobi has awarded that road before he left at the rate of 7 billion naira but they revoked it and re-awarded it for 9 billion naira. Just go there now and see. It is getting bad. As a matter of fact, nearly all the roads in Oyo State have become death traps because of potholes”.
On education, he faulted the performance of Oyo State on the latest WAEC rankings for 2021.
When reminded of the impact of COVID-19 on all aspects of human life during this period, he said “that was not an excuse”. We saw it coming and we raised an alarm but here we are”.
According to him, the opposition is not interested in condemning the government but rather, call it’s imperfections to at areas it needs to improve on.
