Fifteen years after leaving office as speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape is seeking a return.
He is to contest Atiba State constituency seat under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
He will be slugging it out with the current occupant, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, who was the chairman of Atiba local government when he was speaker.
Alarape, OYO INSIGHT recalled, became speaker on November 12, 1999, following the removal of his kinsman and fellow alumnus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, Hon. Kehinde Ayoola who represented Oyo East / West State constituency. Both were members of the Alliance for Democracy, AD.
He was speaker till the end of his first term before he was defeated by Hon. Babatunde Eesuola of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2003 election.
Alarape, it would be recalled, was the director general of the Sen. Teslim Folarin governorship campaign in the 2015 election.
He had last year defected to the APC with notable supporters of Folarin like Honourables Yinka Taiwo and Ismaila Ashipa.
Until now, sources told OYO INSIGHT, his name, together with others who defected to the APC with Folarin, were pencilled down for appointment by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
