A former House of Assembly candidate in Oyo State, Hon. Farouk Arisekola has joined the ongoing campaign against the Special Anti—Robbery Squad (SARS).
Arisekola, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Sunday night, called for the reform of the force.
He maintained that one of the lasting legacies the Buhari government can bequeath is a reformed police force
He wrote: “Yesterday, the media space was agog with agitations over abuse by men of the police force and Special Anti—Robbery Squad (SARS) as people from all walks of life took to popular social media platform , Twitter to call for the disbandment of the special police unit with varying hashtags like #EndSars #EndPoliceBrutality.
“Different people relayed different harrowing experiences in the hands of these law enforcement agents while many were unanimous in the call for the government to look into their activities. Hon. Farouk Umar Arisekola-Alao has also lent his voice to this humane call.
“The police force is established to protect lives and properties, not to put them in grave danger. The country is going through a challenging period but citizens are positive that there is light at the end of the tunnel but while we are all waiting for the dawn to break, we cannot continue to put the lives of youths who are the leaders of tomorrow in continued jeopardy. Every law abiding citizen deserves to go about his lawful business without any sense of fear or trepidation. I want to urge the federal government to look into this menace and curb it. One of the lasting legacies the Buhari government can bequeath is a reformed police force that the people would not only be comfortable with but also proud of.”
