The embattled Ibadan Obashave urged Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to caution his aides against desecrating the Yoruba tradition.

The Obas and Baales in Ibadanland gave the caution in view of what they called the uncomplimentary treatment allegedly meted out to them by the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, at a social function in Igbo-Elerin, Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.

One of the traditional rulers, the Oniroko, alleged that on their arrival at an occasion in Ibadan recently, Olatubosun instructed the compère of the programme to address them as High Chiefs and Baalesinstead of introducing them as Royal Majesties.

Speaking on Tuesday on behalf of his colleagues, the Oniroko of Iroko in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state, Oba Ismaila Abioye Opeola, said they were shocked by the attitude of the commissioner.

He said, “We are royal fathers and deserve our full honour because honour should be given to whom it is due. We urge the governor to caution his aides to be mindful of how they relate with the monarchs on the issue of beaded crowns and coronets while the case lasts in court.”

Efforts by ThePUNCH to get the reaction of the commissioner proved abortive as his telephone number was switched off when called. A text message sent to him was not replied.
