According to the release signed and made available by the group’s spokesperson, Barrister Ayotomiwa Adebayo, OID described the incident as unfortunate and totally avoidable.
The release as stated, “We are deeply saddened by the devastating news about the event organised to thrill the children but turned tragic due to stampede that preceded the festivity Funfair.”
The group commended the swift intervention of the Governor Makinde-led administration and the efforts of various rescue agencies towards the tragedy.
“Also, the Governor’s humbleness, sensitive and selfless approach to the citizen’s welfare by cancelling his birthday celebration to honour the victims and their families, is highly commendable. Indeed, we stand with you and honour your ineffable love for the departed children.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the government, the good people of Oyo State, and the families of the affected children.
“We pray God grant the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and wish the injured victims a quick recovery. May the children’s souls rest in peace,” the release stated.
