The management of the Senior Staff Club of Nigeria‘s premier university, University of Ibadan has shut down the club to curtail the spread of coronavirus.
The decision to shut the club was announced in a letter signed by the management of the club dated 29th of March, 2019, accessed by OYOINSIGHT.COM.
According to the letter, the decision to shut down the club was reached after the executive committee held a crucial online meeting.
The decision to shut down the club takes effect starting from 10 pmon Sunday night.
However, the management announced that starting from Monday 30/03/2020, drinks and food will be served between 12noon to 6 pm at the entrance of the club on take-away basis.
The decision to shut down the club is part of efforts by the government and authorities at various levels to prevent the spread of coronavirus a pandemic that has killed thousands globally.
The decision to shut down the club is also in line with an executive order by Governor Seyi Makinde earlier reported by OYOINSIGHT.COM that any gathering of more than 20 people is now prohibited.
At the time of writing this report, the total number of confirmedcases in the country is 97 with one death.
The index case in Oyo state is now seven making it the state withthe third-highest number of confirmed cases in the country afterLagos and Abuja.
