The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control has approved the Virology Laboratory of the University College Hospital, Ibadan for the testing of Coronavirus Samples.
The agency made this announcement in a statement of Saturday night after the announcement of eight new cases of COVID-19 in the country, four of which are in Oyo State.
“We have expanded the number of labs with the capacity to test for #COVID19 to 6 with the inclusion of the Virology Laboratory of University College Hospital, Ibadan.
“Tomorrow, we will be in Abakaliki to set up another lab as we quickly ramp up #COVID19 testing capacity in Nigeria” the statement read.
OYOINSIGHT.COM had earlier reported that Governor Seyi Makinde said the test center is ready and only awaiting confirmation from the NCDC before it begins operation.
The Governor who is currently in self-isolation also said he will be the first person to test at the Virology center based on the advice of the NCDC after having direct contact with a confirmed case.
At the time of writing this report, the total number of confirmed cases in the country is 97 with one death.
The index case in Oyo state is now seven making it the state with the third-highest number of confirmed cases in the country after Lagos and Abuja.
