Journalists are not immune from societal ills of division in politics. The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, today became factionalized.
Two parallel Excos emerged. Omolola Alamu of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN and Jadesola Adesola emerged at a separate elections.
Alamu, Others Emerge New Oyo NAWOJ Executives
Mrs Omolola Alamu of Federal Radio Corporation Of Nigeria (FRCN) Ibadan Station has emerged the new chairperson Oyo NAWOJ.
Alamu was elected alongside other executive members by registered NAWOJ members at the NUJ press Centre on Thursday in Ibadan.
The election was held under a conducive environment as against a statement issued by the credential committee chairman, Mrs Morenike Tony-Esan where she reported that NUJ secretariat was not conducive for the election.
The ever-agitated NAWOJ members, who effected the change in NAWOJ leadership, expressed readiness to fully support Alamu and her team.
Alamu urged members to be up and doing in the association, promising to lift the association to enviable heights.
She stressed that the welfare of members would be given utmost priority, saying it was one of the major plans of her team.
Alamu implored Nawojians in the state to give maximum support to her team so as to achieve remarkable success.
She emphasised that with the new team, every member would be involved.
It will be recalled that the NUJ, the umbrella body few weeks ago, dissociated itself from the NAWOJ election.

Comrade Jadesola Ajibola Reelected As Chairperson Oyo NAWOJ For Second Term
Today marked history in Oyo state has the new executives committee members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Oyo state.
Speaking on behalf of Comrade Ladi Bala, the National Financial secretary of NAWOJ, Comrade Adeola Adekunle said the national body having concluded all the screening processes returned Jadesola Ajibola, Seyi Bamidele, Stella Oyebanji and Peju Oyelakin as Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
She urged the new executive members to bring all members together, serve deligently and promote peace among members.
The Vice President of NAWOJ, Comrade Omobola Akingbehin who presented the certificate of return to all the contestants, advised the all members to work together to move the association for and promote the pen profession in Oyo state and Nigeria.
The newly elected Chairperson, Comrade Jadesola Ajibola assured all members that the second term will be better and welfare of members will be topmost on the agenda.
She noted that NAWOJ is one family and as sisters, the Patriotic agenda will be actualised.
Other members of the newly elected state officers are Comrade Seyi Bamidele as vice Chairperson, Comrade Stella Oyebanji as secretary and Comrade Peju Oyelakin as Treasurer
