BURSARY: Makinde Splashes N50m On Oyo Students

Two thousand and five hundred Oyo state tertiary institutions students were given bursaries today by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial aspirant, Engr Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued by the Seyi Makinde organisation and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, over 10,000 students have benefited from the programme which the aspirant started since 2006.

During the presentation, Makinde said that the issue of education goes beyond politics and that was why he kept faith with his conviction to empower the youths through education for twelve unbroken years now. 

At the ceremony witnessed by a mammoth crowd including parents and associates, Makinde said that the United Nations Education and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO’s policy on education is that 26 percent of the annual budget of the state must be allocated to education but only 2.5 percent is allocated to education in Oyo state. 

He promised to adhere strictly to the UNESCO Standard which will improve the infrastructure of schools.

He also promised to reintroduce 30-pupil per class and create new approach to how education is funded. 

According to him, his creative government will make thriving companies and business concerns to adopt a School, depending on their verified solvency.

In his speech, the chairman of the event and erudite Scholar, Prof Taoheed Adedoja opined that self development and education is where the better future lies with our youth.

While giving their remarks, Dr Saka Balogun and former head of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Primate Ola Makinde extolled the founder and sponsor of the bursary award, Makinde. 

Primate Makinde advised the students to use the money for educational and self development.

The dignitaries at the event include Senator Kamoru Adedibu, Chief Jacob Adetoro, Engr Lere Adigun Pastor Adeniji, Chairman Of Christians Association of Nigeria, Oyo state Branch, Pastor B O Akanmu and representative of Chief Imam of Ibadan, Sheik Abdul Ganiyu Agbotomokekere to mention a few.
