The National Deputy Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Mobolaji Repete, has said that Honourables Olusegun Odebunmi and Olajide Olatubosun are experienced enough to lead the House of Representatives.
Repete, who advised the APC on 9th National Assembly leadership election, explained that the party should learn from the 2015 with “tragedy” that produced Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Bunvic, as Odebunmi is fondly called, has just been re-elected to represent Surulere/ Ogo-Oluwa federal constituency for the third term while Olatunbosun has just been re-elected to represent ATISBO/Saki East/Saki West for the second term.
Repete in a statement in Ibadan on Monday appealed to the leadership to follow the party constitution if they wanted party supremacy to be obeyed.
He said, “As a ruling party, selection of who becomes what at the legislative arm of government should not be allowed to snowball into a crisis. The party only needs to stand firm on the constitutional provision, coordinate and settle issues among all APC aspirants in the National Assembly in order to avoid a serious crisis.”
While reacting to the rumoured adoption of Mr Femi Gbajabiamila as the anointed speakership candidate by the party leadership, Repete noted that there was nothing wrong with this but they should ensure that the APC constitution was not breached.
He added that the APC Zonal Executive Council (South-West) would be involved in who would become the Speaker of the House of Representatives once the position was zoned to the geopolitical zone by the national leadership of the party.
Repete, who said “Oyo State deserves the position of the speaker,” appealed to all the stakeholders to support the state to produce the Speaker for the 9th National Assembly.
