Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, Chairman Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercime has called for proper usage and maintainance of the ICT Centres facilitated for secondary schools and CBT centres in Oyo north Senatorial district.
About 20 secondary schools benefited from the ICT centres and blocks of classroom and four CBT centres were constructed in Iseyin, Saki, Igbeti and Ogbomoso respectively .
Speaking at the commissioning of ICT centre facilitated for Community Grammar School Otu, on Wednesday, the federal lawmaker said “The ICT centre should be utilized for training and equping the students with knowledge on ICT.
“People from rural areas are at disadvantaged because of lack of access to basic ICT tools and knoweldge but with the effort I have done in facilitating ICT and CBT centres in schools and some communities I am sure the trend will change positively and more people will acquire basic and advanced computer education.
“Students at the rural areas needs to be equipped with ICT education so as to lessen the challenges of writing CBT examinations or compete with their counterparts anywhere in the world
“My intention is to make Oyo state ICT hub so that right from here in Otu or Ogbomoso, anybody can develop an application or software that will be useful for development of the state and the world at large,” Buhari added.
The school principal, Mr Jokanola Folarin, in his welcome address said the ICT centre has placed the school in a global community, adding that the facilities will serve the interest of the incoming generations so as to be able to compete with their equals in the world.
Mr Niyi Adeagbo, Chairman Itesiwaju local government, in his brief remark commended Buhari for his effort in connecting the school to the global community.
“This gesture will go a long way in shaping the future of our younger one and assist them to acquire required ICT skill,” he said
