The Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Taofeek Arapaja has a tight rope to walk over the next few months, an analysis by OYOINSIGHT.COM has revealed.
Following the National Executive Council meeting of the PDP held in Abuja today, elective leadership positions within the party are expected to be zoned within states in various political regions.
However, this newspaper understands that Arapaja’s chances of returning as the party’s number one person in the South is at risk of being sacrificed on the altar of the Presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Makinde, whose influence in the party continues to grow, is now a major contender for the party’s Presidential ticket. But to clear his pathway to the ticket, feelers indicate that he may have to sacrifice Arapaja’s current seat by backing its zoning to another state in the south.
However, Arapaja, a former deputy governor of the state, has one more political card to play: contest to succeed Makinde as Governor. This likelihood of this is however slim as Makinde has continued to keep the cards of who will succeed him close to his chest, closer than he has kept his Presidential ambition.
