Dr. Yunus Akintunde, an aspirant for the Oyo central senatorial seat in the 2023 election, has congratulated chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Alesinloye and his colleagues for emerging victorious at the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court had Friday afternoon faulted the removal of elected council chairmen by Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State.
Not satisfied with their removal, the council bosses had to go from high court through to the appellate court before today’s supreme court judgement.
Though they were not returned to their council areas, the court, however, asked the Makinde administration to pay the salaries and allowances before August 2021.
Akintunde, while commending his All Progressives Congress, APC, members and especially ALGON members for their steadfastness, called on party faithful to use the avenue to further close ranks and cement existing relationship.
“I am overjoyed that our men and party eventually triumphed in court. By this, we have shown that we are democratic unlike the current administration that, in disobedience to laid down rules, sacked them.
“This judgement shows that if we persevere, things can be redressed. Though it is unfortunate that our people would not be allowed to return to offices, I want to salute all of us for our temerity.
“With this, we are almost close to the Agodi Government House. Like I always tell those who care to listen, PDP did not win the 2019 governorship election, we lost it. Imagine a party that won 9 out of 14 house of representatives and 2 out of 3 senatorial seats losing the governorship poll, just two weeks apart.
“We now know our mistakes and I am happy we have almost reconciled ourselves. Once again, I want to congratulate all of us.”
