The number of those who are opposed to the leadership of former governor Abiola Ajimobi in the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, keeps growing every day.
From the forum of aspirants within the party came an advise that the party needs new and vibrant leaders that will lead the party into the 2023 general elections.
The coordinator and secretary of the forum in the state, Akeem Babalola and Ademola Solalu made the call on a live programme, South West Political Circuit on Fresh FM 105.9
The forum stressed that the leaders that led the party to defeat in the 2019 general elections should not be the same people to lead the party into the next elections.
Solalu said that although the tenure of the present executives of the party in the state will expire in 2022, “as a doctrine of necessity,” the executives have to go in order to chart a new course for the party.
He said:”It’s time to restructure Oyo APC. We need a set of new leaders; APC can’t continue to be under the whims and caprices of one man.
“We must dissolve all the structures and bring everybody on board and chart a new course for the party moving forward.”
He attributed the loss of the party in the March 9 governorship and State Assembly elections to the congress and primaries that produced the current state executives and party candidates respectively.
He said the congresses from the ward to state level was a sham.
“There was no congress and primary in Oyo state. What we had was imposition.
“What happened in Oyo state was avoidable if we had managed our success and internal issues very well.
“Now that we have all seen the result, we must play the game according to the rules if we want to come back to reckoning,” he said.
Solalu urged national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other leaders of to visit the state like they did in Ondo, adding that they should stop listening to just one person who keeps telling them that everything is fine within the party in the state.
Speaking, Babalola advised President Muhammadu Buhari on his ministerial choice from Oyo state, saying former Governor Abiola Ajimobi would not make a good choice.
He said:”Although it is the prerogative of President Buhari to appoint whoever he wants as minister, but anybody that would be appointed should be a unifying figure and that is not former governor Ajimobi. When he was the governor, he rode as a dictator, he does what he likes and nobody says anything.
“They should give another person the appointment, the former governor should not even be allowed to nominate who will be the minister because he will pick his own people.”
The forum urged the National Working Committee(NWC) of the party to dissolve the current executives of the party, stating that is the only way the party can regain its lost glory after suffering defeat in the 2019 elections.
