Aditu Solidarity Group, an Ibadan-based cultural and social justice group, has installed the Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, HRM (Oba) Tajudeen Ajibola as its patron.

The installation ceremony of the Ibadan king and the presentation of the instrument of office to him as the association’s patron was held at his palace in Ibadan today, Sunday 30th June, 2024.

In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to the association for the honour that the installation represents, noting that it’s a call to action for him.

“I am grateful to everyone here. You have my word that when you call me, I will answer. I pray that God will give me the strength to be able to always answer you. He will also give us the strength to achieve the association’s goal of social justice,” he was quoted saying at the event.

Earlier in his welcome address at the event, the founder of Aditu Solidarity Group, Abiodun Adewole (Mr. Double A), noted that the decision to install him was driven by the need to formalize the support he already gives the association.

“We decided to make our father the Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, as our patron because of his antecedents as a great support system right from the inception of our association. We are doing this to formalize and solidify the relationship we already have with him,” he said.

Speaking on the association’s goal, he explained that it was established to deploy the media for social good and achieve social justice. “The media is a very good platform that can be used for both good and bad. What we do at Aditu is that we use radio alongside social media platforms to expose ills and cases of human rights abuses, and ensure that victims get justice.”

“There are people who have influence in the society and then use it to oppress others. This is another thing that does not sit well with us at Aditu.

“Initially, we started as a radio program on Splash FM but at some point we realized we have to expand the reach of our efforts and that was why we established the Aditu Solidarity Group. Today, we have reach in the diaspora and our goal is to go global. So help us God”
