Akanbi, who represented Oyo South senatorial district between 2015 and 2019, described the deceased as a politician who lived a life worthy of emulation.

“I came in contact with Chief S.M Akindele early in my political journey. I was very close to him. He was organized. He was a loyal man. He was an Awoist and loyal to his friends, former governors Bola Ige and Lamidi Adesina. Every moment I had with him were great moment.

“He loved me and was committed to everything I did. I remember how he travelled all the way from Oyo to Lagos for the Fidau of my late father in-law. I was dazed to see waiting for us at the venue. That was Chief Akindele.

“We just lost a political giant, a core Awoist,  a tutor par excellence, a political father and the first Aiyekooto. Adieu Baba S.M Akindele” Akanbi said, praying God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss
