Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Professor Adeolu Akande has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving a federal polytechnic for Oyo State.
Akande, who is the director at the Centre for Presidential Studies, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, said he was happy that, at last, Oyo has a federal polytechnic.
This was just as the former chairman of the Nigeria Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, appealed to the federal government to consider siting a federal university within the 10 local government area of Okeogun area of the state.
According to him, “Just like every development-loving people of Oyo State, I am happy that our state now has an additional higher institution. There could not have been a better time. I will continue to say it, Oyo, with its teeming population of indigenes and non-indigenes, need more higher institutions. Every year, admission seekers from the state throng neighboring and available higher institutions, but the existing ones have limited spaces. While some are delayed, some don’t get to go to school again.
“For long, Oyo State had needed another institution to take care of its numerous admission seekers every year. We cannot but be grateful for this gesture.
“But like Oliver Twist, I will like to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the bill already passed by the National Assembly for the creation of a university of agriculture and technology in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State. It will complement the efforts of the existing university and other higher institutions in the state, to cater for our teeming youths yearning for higher education” he added.
