Towards the end of the year, there is one celebration that everyone looks forward to in Ibarapa East Local Government of Oyo State. It’s the annual Okada day celebration organized and hosted by Hon.Sunday Adepoju. The event is a gathering of indigenes of Lanlate and Eruwa who gather joyfully to celebrate and parade with extreme pomp and splendid displays by okada riders.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial Candidate for Oyo South, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi was not left out of this year’s celebration as he joined the wonderful people to celebrate; adding glitz and glamour to the colourful occasion.
The event started off with a mini rally around all towns in Ibarapa East Local Government where the distinguished Senator doled out several gift items to the wonderful, welcoming and very hospitable people.
The event which was later held at the New Motor Park Garage in Eruwa had various dignitaries in attendance which includes the ADC party Chairmen in Ibarapa East and Ido Local Government in persons of Alhaji Ajiboye and Pastor Akintokun as well as all party faithfuls in both LGs. Also in attendance was the ADC State House of Assembly Candidates for Ido and Ibarapa East LGs in person of Hon. Clement Olagunju and Hon. Mark Akinyode.
In a welcome address delivered by the Chief host of the event; Hon. Sunday Adepoju who represents Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency at the Lower Chambers, he commended Senator Akanbi for his contribution towards the success of this year’s event while also appreciating him for the okadas donated to complement his efforts towards having a glamorous event.
In his remarks, Senator Akanbi expressed joy and satisfaction towards the event adding that he is really happy to be a part of it and he will continue to be a part of it as it comes up annually. The Senator also commended Honourable Sunday Adepoju for hosting this unprecedented event and he implored other lawmakers to emulate this laudable programme.
He further used the opportunity to highlight the manifesto, plans and programmes of the ADC in Oyo State. He emphasized on the fact that the party is one that has human face and feelings and whose policies and ideologies are not bent on inconveniencing the good people of Oyo State. Giving account of his stewardship, he highlighted some of the national issues he stands for on the floor of the Red Chambers which includes him saying “NO TO CATTLE COLONY” in their lands.
“How can we fold our arms allowing some people to invade our district damaging our lands and destroying the livelihood of our farmers?” Akanbi Said.
He further explained that though the present government is not consistent on the issue, but he is glad that his persistence on advocating on the issue made the proposal of taking our lands as cattle colony by herdsmen go with the wind adding that he will not relent on the issue.
Meanwhile, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi extends his New Year greetings to the good people of Oyo South; he wishes them a happy and prosperous new year filled with pleasant surprises. He appreciates the great constituents of Oyo South for their support in the past years while also reiterating his commitment towards providing an unmatched and unrivalled representation given the opportunity once again.
