Mining Cadastre Office Responds To FOI Request On Makinde’s Pacesetter Minerals Company

The Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), Abuja, has responded to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request seeking details of mineral titles granted to Pacesetter Minerals Development Company Limited and records of mining royalty remittances to the Oyo State Government.

The Adetayo Adekunle Public Interest Initiative, which submitted the request, said the office had agreed to release certified copies of mining records relating to the company upon payment of the applicable statutory fees.

In a statement signed by its administrator, Ms Eniola Fortune, on Friday, the initiative said the MCO communicated its position in a letter dated October 21, 2026, with reference number MCO/LEGAL/FOI/1/80.

According to the statement, the letter acknowledged receipt of the initiative’s request dated September 28, 2026.

The MCO reportedly said the records concerning Pacesetter Minerals Development Company Limited, registered as RC-1076034, would be disclosed after payment of the required fees under Section 8 of the Freedom of Information Act and Schedule 1 of Regulation 105(6) of the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Regulations, 2011.

However, the office said it was not responsible for collecting, administering or remitting mining royalties to the Oyo State Government.

The statement said the MCO had consequently forwarded the part of the request concerning payment vouchers for royalty remittances to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development for further action.

The initiative welcomed the response, describing it as a step towards transparency and compliance with the Freedom of Information Act.

It also said it would pay the required fees to obtain the certified mining records while awaiting the ministry’s response on royalty remittances to Oyo State.

The FOI request, according to the group, was intended to promote accountability in the management of the state’s mineral resources through Pacesetter Minerals Development Company Limited.

The initiative said it would keep the public informed as the process progresses.
