NIHOTOUR To Challenge Lagos Court Ruling On Hospitality Industry Standards

The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) has revealed plan to challenge a Federal High Court judgment in Lagos in a suit filed by the Hotel Owners and Managers Association of Lagos (HOMAL) against the institute and other defendants.

The institute disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday and obtained by OYOINSIGHT.com, saying it would obtain a certified true copy of the judgment and consult its legal advisers on the appropriate appellate process.

NIHOTOUR reaffirmed its commitment to defending its statutory mandate and promoting professional standards in Nigeria’s hospitality, travel and tourism sectors.

It said the dispute raised broader questions about professional development, workforce competence and the standards required to make Nigeria a more competitive hospitality and tourism destination.

According to the institute, professional training, recognised qualifications and continuous development are essential investments in workers, businesses, consumer confidence and the long-term reputation of tourism destinations.

NIHOTOUR acknowledged the interests of hotel owners and operators, including the need to protect jobs, attract investment and maintain a viable business environment, but maintained that these objectives were not incompatible with professional development and appropriate standards.

The institute said it would comply with applicable court orders while reviewing the judgment and pursuing its legal options.

It also called for differences over regulatory authority to be resolved through the law and constructive engagement among relevant federal and state institutions.

NIHOTOUR said the goal should be to establish a clear regulatory framework that supports professional development, respects lawful jurisdiction and promotes growth in the industry.

“The Institute will communicate further developments as the legal process progresses,” the statement added.
