Circular Road 100% State-Funded, Stop Claiming Oyo Projects – Makinde Knocks FG

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused the Federal Government of taking credit for projects executed by his administration, insisting that the 110-kilometre Ibadan Circular Road is 100 per cent funded and executed by the state government.

Makinde made the claim in a disclaimer posted on his official campaign X account on Friday, following a Federal Government advertorial published in two pages of The Punch newspaper listing projects across the country.

The advertorial listed the Ibadan Circular Road among federal government projects, although it described the project as “state-led.”

Reacting, Makinde said the Federal Government had no involvement in the project and should stop presenting it as one of its achievements.

“The 110km Circular Road project is being constructed by the H.E. Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State Government. The Federal Government needs to stop claiming the project as one of its own achievements. The project is not ‘state-led’ as stated in today’s Punch Newspaper; it is 100% being executed by the OYSG,” he said.

The governor, who is also the Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) for the 2027 general elections, linked the development to an earlier dispute over the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport.

He alleged that the Federal Government had similarly attempted to claim credit for the airport project, which he said was also being executed entirely by the Oyo State Government.

Makinde specifically criticised Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his reported claim that the Federal Government provided ₦50 billion for the Ibadan Airport upgrade.

“This penchant for stealing OYSG projects needs to stop! The other day, Minister Nyesom Wike lied that the FG gave Oyo State N50B for the Ibadan Airport upgrade project,” Makinde said.

He also alleged that federal officials, including a member of the House of Representatives, Akin Alabi, had been trying to claim credit for the airport project.

Makinde maintained that both the Circular Road and Ibadan Airport upgrade were projects being executed by the Oyo State Government without Federal Government intervention, urging the Federal Government to stop what he described as repeated attempts to take credit for the state’s projects.
