Hundreds Of Oluyole APM Members Abandon Makinde, Join Oyo APC
No fewer than a thousand members of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending what they described as years of support for Governor Seyi Makinde.
The defectors, led by Hon. Mustapha Kazeem, popularly known as Oba Oluyole, were received into the APC on Friday at the party’s secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
They were formally received by the APC State Chairman, Otunba Moses-Alake Adeyemo, and other members of the state executive committee.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Kazeem criticised Makinde’s leadership, alleging that the governor had failed to appreciate loyalty, good human relations and the sacrifices made by those who supported his political journey.
He also alleged that some of those empowered by the governor had victimised members of the group in Oluyole Local Government Area over the years.
“It came to a point that we could not pretend again and this made us to see the light in the progressive fold. It is an established fact that the APC is the only political party that is worth its name,” Kazeem said.
He described the APM as “Governor Makinde’s private estate,” saying the group had decided to leave what he described as “deceit and propaganda.”
Kazeem added that the defectors had resolved to join the APC and work with its members and leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC Chairman in Oluyole, Prince Dotun Oladipupo, presented the defectors to Adeyemo, who formally welcomed them into the party and handed them brooms as a symbol of their admission into the APC.
Adeyemo urged the new members to put their past political differences behind them and commit themselves to the APC, saying the party offered them “Renewed Hope.”
Among APC leaders present at the event were the State Secretary, Hon. Fatai Adesina; State Financial Secretary, Hon. Tunde Elegbede; Dr Felicia Opatunde; Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare; Comrade Olalekan Oladejo; Alhaji Lateef Akinsanya; APC candidate for Oluyole Federal Constituency, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe; and the party’s candidate for Oluyole State Constituency, Hon. Hakeem Lawal, among others.
