Nigeria @ 66: Oyo Govt Announces Independence Walk

The Oyo State Government has announced a special Independence Walk as part of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The walk is scheduled to hold on Monday, September 28, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. from the Government Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan, and terminating at the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi.

According to information made available to newsmen, the exercise is designed to promote unity, patriotism, love for the country and healthy living among residents of the state.

The walk is expected to attract top government functionaries, members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, political leaders, youth organisations, artisans, market leaders, students, civil servants, members of the organised private sector and other residents.

Participants are expected to join the exercise in the spirit of the Independence celebration and showcase Nigeria’s journey, resilience and collective hope for a brighter future.

The state government said security agencies and medical teams would be on ground to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

Residents of Ibadan and its environs have therefore been enjoined to come out en masse and participate in the symbolic walk as part of activities marking the 66th Independence Anniversary.
