2027: SDP Presents Baale, Falade As Oyo South, Ibadan NW/SW Fed Constituency Candidates
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State has presented Hon. Ayoade Raimi Baale as its candidate for the Oyo South Senatorial District and Ms. Falade Oluwatoyin Olufunke as its candidate for the Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with the SDP strengthening its candidate lineup across Oyo State following the emergence of Hon. Michael Okunlade as the party’s governorship candidate.
Accepting the party’s mandate, Baale said his representation of Oyo South, which comprises a significant part of Ibadanland as well as Ibarapa land, would focus on securing meaningful dividends of democracy for the people.
He, however, identified the creation of Ibadan State as his major legislative project, promising to continue the campaign from wherever previous efforts had stopped.
Baale argued that Ibadan’s historical importance as the former capital of the Western Region makes the demand for state creation particularly compelling.
He said the city remains the only former regional capital of pre- and post-independence Nigeria that has not been accorded state status, adding that the process should be fast-tracked to address what he described as years of neglect and unjust denial.
According to him, the Ibadan State project should not be viewed merely as an Ibadan interest but as a national cause because of the city’s economic and historical significance.
He pledged to work with other lawmakers from Oyo State and across the country to advance the cause, while also pursuing other legislative initiatives capable of improving the welfare of constituents across Oyo South.
For Falade, effective representation of the Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency would be built around accessibility, accountability and responsiveness. Accepting her nomination, she promised that she would remain available to constituents beyond election periods, listen to their concerns and ensure that the interests of the constituency receive proper attention at the National Assembly.
Falade identified quality and affordable education, youth empowerment, employment opportunities, support for small businesses, improved healthcare, infrastructure, security and community development as key areas of her proposed representation. She also pledged to pursue initiatives capable of attracting investment and creating opportunities for young people and vulnerable members of the constituency.
She said her approach would be based on realistic goals, partnerships and consistent delivery rather than promises that could not be fulfilled. Falade also extended a hand of friendship to the aspirant who withdrew from the contest in her favour, stressing that the development of Ibadan Northwest/Southwest required collective effort beyond the outcome of the selection process.
Both candidates subsequently called for unity among SDP members as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
