Kareem Emerges Oyo LP Guber Candidate

The Oyo State chapter of the Labour Party has announced Mr. Sola Kareem as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 governorship election, alongside candidates for other elective positions.

The party said the decision followed a consensus-driven primary election held at its state secretariat in Ibadan.

Chairman of the Labour Party in Oyo State, Sadiq Tunji-Atayese, disclosed the outcome in a statement made available to journalists through the office of the party’s state publicon Monday.

He said the primary election was conducted on May 30, 2026, at the State Party Secretariat, Molete, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, in strict compliance with the Electoral Act and the party’s guidelines.

Alhaji Tunji-Atayese Sadiq noted that candidates for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senatorial positions across the state also emerged through the same consensus process.

According to him, the process reflected the unity and shared vision that positions the Labour Party as the best alternative for transformative politics in Oyo State.

“We are particularly excited to announce that Mr. Sola Kareem has emerged as the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Oyo State Governorship Election,” the chairman stated.

He added that the party is confident that Kareem’s leadership, experience, and commitment to good governance will resonate with the people of Oyo State.

The party chairman described Kareem as a leader with the capacity to address the challenges facing the state. He expressed optimism that the candidate’s track record would inspire voters as the party works collectively towards a brighter future for Oyo State.

Atayese congratulated all candidates who emerged from the primary election. He said their emergence marks the beginning of a collective mission to provide the people of Oyo State with competent, compassionate, and people-centered leadership at all levels of government.

He assured that the Labour Party candidates would remain true to the core values of the party. “We have every confidence that our candidates will prioritize the welfare of the people, defend their interests, and pursue policies that deliver meaningful progress across our communities,” he said.

The party leader stressed that all the candidates represent a new generation of leadership committed to building a more prosperous, inclusive, and equitable Oyo State. He urged residents to expect a campaign focused on accountability, transparency, and service delivery.

The primary election was coordinated by representatives of the National Electoral Committee of the Labour Party, led by its Chairman, Mr. Akinpelumi Olusegun Olasubomi, and his team. The exercise was also observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Atayese extended appreciation to delegates, party leaders, stakeholders, aspirants, members, and security personnel for ensuring a peaceful and credible process. As the party moves into the campaign phase, he called on members and supporters to remain united and focused on delivering competent, accountable, and people-centered leadership to Oyo State.
