According to the organisation, at the court sitting held on Friday, 6th March, 2026, the Appellants the University of Ibadan (UI), International School Ibadan (ISI) and three others moved their application dated and filed on 11th November, 2024 seeking an enlargement of time within which to compile and transmit the Record of Appeal.

The Appellants also prayed the court to deem the already compiled record as properly compiled and transmitted.

The application was formally moved before the Honourable Court and, after considering the submissions, the Court granted the application as prayed.

Following the ruling, the Court issued the following orders concerning the filing of briefs for the appeal:

The Appellants are to file their Brief of Argument within seven (7) days.

The Respondents are to file their Brief within fourteen (14) days after service of the Appellants’ Brief.

The Appellants’ Reply Brief, if any, is to be filed within seven (7) days after service of the Respondents’ Brief.

After making the above orders, the Honourable Court adjourned the matter to 29th April, 2026 for the hearing of the appeal.

It was also noted during the proceedings that eleven (11) other sister appeals connected to the hijab matter had earlier been adjourned to the same date. This means that all the related appeals are expected to be heard together on 29th April, 2026.

The legal team representing MURIC in the matter is led by Barrister Yusuf Anikulapo, who was present in court during the proceedings.

The Oyo State Chapter of MURIC reiterated its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the protection of the fundamental rights of Muslim students to freely practice their religion, including the right to wear the hijab in schools.

The organisation therefore called on members of the Muslim community and all lovers of justice to remain calm, prayerful and supportive as the legal process continues.
