Governor Abiodun stated this on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting Makinde, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan. The discussions focused on enhancing food security and fostering mutual economic benefits for both states.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Governor Abiodun highlighted the deep cultural, historical, and economic ties between the two states, stressing the importance of joint efforts for the welfare of their people.

“I have come to see my brother, Governor Seyi Makinde, to discuss matters of mutual interest. Ogun State was part of the old Western Region where Ibadan was the capital. We have very strong ties, both cultural and economic, with the people and government of Oyo State,” he said.

Governor Abiodun noted that both states continue to attract major investors due to their proximity and shared economic interests. He emphasized the need to strengthen agricultural collaboration to boost food security and sovereignty.

“Our discussions centered on how we can further collaborate to ensure that we eat what we grow and grow what we eat, turning our region into the breadbasket of the country,” he added.

The Ogun State governor commended Oyo State’s efforts in agriculture while highlighting Ogun’s own initiatives, including farms in Odeda, Imeko, and Yewa North, which share borders with Oyo State.

Governor Abiodun also underscored the importance of security in driving socio-economic development, praising the Southwest Security Network, Amotekun, for its role in intelligence gathering and maintaining regional security.
