Speaking at the event, Prince Joel Oyeyiola, the Executive Director of the Initiative emphasized the importance of mathematics as a foundation for technological and scientific advancement. He noted that the competition was organised by Engr. Abass Oladimeji Abass as parts of activities marking his 45th Birthday celebration. He added that the competition was a way for one of Nigeria’s brightest minds to connect to his root. “Like you, Engr. Abass also passed through this stage and he immensely benefited from this kind of opportunity long before he caught his teeth in corporate world and public service “, Prince Oyeyiola posited. “This program and many other activities lined up for the grand finale of his birthday is a way of giving back to the community”, he concluded.

While speaking, Muftau Gbadegesin, Program Coordinator for the Initiative also admonished the students to borrow a leaf from Engr. Abass who has inspired countless young people in and outside the community with his exemplary and community driven leadership. In attendance were executives of the Federation of Igboho Students Union led by the General Secretary, Comrade Janet Adebisi.
