Ahead of the forthcoming council election in Oyo State, a socio-political group— Coalition for Good Governance, has warned against causing religious crisis in Ibadan South East local government.

A statement by the group’s coordinator— Adeolu Adediran, reads “Our attention has been drawn to a media release signed by one Rev. Adedibu Emmanuel of the Commonwealth Restoration Movement alleging marginalisation of Christians in the distribution of political office in Ibadan South East LG.

“The group didn’t carry out a thorough investigation before they rushed to press. It is an established fact that there has always been a very peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance between Christians and Muslims in the local government. And there was never a time religion was a parameter for election or appointment of political office holders .

“Rev. Adedibu and his co travellers should be informed that the incumbent chairman of the local government, Hon. Wole Alawode, his vice, Hon Adekunke Ogundeji and the Council Secretary are all Christians and the Muslims in the council area didn’t at any point in time rebel against this lopsidedness because of a very good understanding and tolerance that exist among them.

“Rev. Adedibu should by now understand that the entire leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ibadan South East LG has rejected his candidate, Mr . Wole Alawode and no amount of sponsored news and media attacks could return him for second term,” it added.
