To deter beggars from returning to the streets, especially after government had spent millions to remove them from the streets, and rehabilitate them at its rehabilitation center in Moniya, Oyo State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has threatened to relocate them henceforth, to Kishi, headquarters of Irepo Local Government Area, in the Oke-Ogun Zone of the state.
Appearing on Fresh 105.9FM’s Political Circuit monitored by OYOINSIGHT.COM, Makinde lamented the seemingly insurmountable problems in the management of waste, despite concerted efforts by government to change the narrative.
This newspaper recalls that Makinde’s new deputy, Bayo Lawal, hails from Kishi, headquarters of Irepo local government.
“Ibadan has always been deemed dirty – this is a statement I’ve heard from way back, growing up as a child.
“And when a problem doesn’t go away, despite efforts by succeeding governments means only one thing, others might have been papering over the cracks, but we won’t do that, we’ll try to find a lasting solution.”
Makinde who admitted that things could’ve been done better in the management of waste, asked those with contrary ideas which devoid of politics can help the state, to put same forward.
