Akeem Olatunji, publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State, has said that Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, never at anytime during the electioneering in 2019 promised any Botswana maize which the opposition taunts him with.

He said that it was the coinage of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to discredit the governor.

Featuring on BOTTOMLINE on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan over the weekend, Olatunji alleged that the APC is doing all it can to reclaim power in 2023 hence, the campaign of calumny launched against the governor and his administration.

According to him, “they have forgotten that it is only God that gives power and He gives it to whoever He wishes”.

Reacting to issues raised by the publicity secretary of the caretaker committee of the APC, Dr. Abdulazeez Olatunde in a statement on Thursday which he defended on the programme via the telephone, Olatunji noted that Makinde only thought that Oyo State and Botswana could have partnership in the area of agriculture but stressed that “when Makinde appointed Dr Debo Akande, a renowned agriculturist, he saw the need to modify that plan and the government has been doing wonderfully well in agriculture”.

On education, Olatunde alleged that the PDP government has not been able to distribute books to students in public school in the State like it did in 2019 because the books it gave to the students then were produced by late former governor Abiola Ajimobi but Olatunji in his response countered him, saying the Ajimobi administration only awarded the contract for the production of the books but did not pay the contractor.

“The contract for the production of the books was awarded quite alright but that was after the then goverment lost the 2019 election and that is suspicious”

“It is unfortunate what they did to the government before them when they removed the back cover of the books and changed it to suit their selfish desires”.

The engineer turned Politician said that the Ajimobi administration only constructed 8.2 kilometres of road in the entire Oke-Ogun zone for the period of eight years but disclosed that the Makinde administration would have succeeded in constructing over 200 kilometres of road in less than three years.

“They only constructed 8.2 kilometres in Iseyin township in eight years and that’s all but go and look at what Makinde has done in Oke-Ogun in less than three years in Office”.

He described Makinde as a philanthropist and a generous giver who can afford to give Prado jeeps to whoever he wishes. He therefore asked the opposition not to lose sleep over the governor’s generosity.
