UI College Of Medicine Denies Receiving N118m From Oyo — We Returned N5m Given To Us

The College of Medicine, University of Ibadan did not receive N118 million from Oyo State government, the management of the College has said.

The management stated this in a press statement signed by its Deputy registrar Dr. Ikeoluwapo Moody, on Wednesday.

The Deputy Registrar also revealed that the institution had returned the N5 million it received from the state government.

The release by the management of thecolorege of medicine is in reaction to a claim made by the Public Relations Officer of the University College Hospital, UCH, Mr. Toye Akinrinlola that “it was possible” that the College received N118 million from the state government.

According to the statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, “the College Management wishes to state emphatically and categorically that it did not receive the sum of N118 million from the Oyo State government for COVID-19 tests.

“To set the record straight, Oyo State Government initially gave the College of Medicine N5 million to run Biorepository and Clinical Virology Laboratory set up for the purpose of testing COVID-19 patients.”

She, however, added, “When the accreditation by the NCDC was not forthcoming, the N5 million was returned to Oyo State Government to help in fighting the pandemic in the state.

“Eventually, the Biorepository & Clinical virology laboratory was accredited by the NCDC and the College Is working in tandem with the state government in testing patients using materials donated by the NCDC, Corporate bodies, Alumni Association and other Stakeholders.”
